The Wayfarer Open at the Upper Thames Sailing Club took place over the weekend of the
21/22 September. There were 11 boats, three of which were visitors to the club,
competing for three trophies. Two races were run each day with an evening event
on the Saturday which was well attended. The weather was a challenge as light
winds prevailed for both days; a real river sailing experience. The good
humoured fleet persisted through the four races producing the overall
winner of the Splashaway Trophy; Martin and Becky Collen in Pieces of Eight.
Runners up were Quentin Strauss and Sarah Burgess in Gorgeous Worgeous and
in third was Ian Richards and Adam Light in Ooh Oh.
The Splashaway Plaque is awarded to the best placed Upper Thames Sailing Club
crew (other than the winning boat) and this was won by Quentin Strauss and
Sarah Burgess. The Notley Noggin is awarded to the best placed boat with
a combined age of more than 100 years and this was won by Ian Richards and
