Trevor Kirby W2597 and W12

I feel the Association would wish to be made aware that my father – Trevor Kirby, who was Chairman in the early 1980’s  – sadly died on Sunday 27th December.  He was 92.

Dad had many years enjoying his “tiller time” in W 2597 (Bona) at Medway Yacht Club through the 70’s, where he taught me to sail.  He was Class Captain of a fleet that at one time topped 70 boats including many well known Wayfarer names.

After the Medway, medical retirement took him to Parkstone Yacht Club where he was an active Wayfarer member (W 12) before switching to the XOD class.

In later years he was often to be found on the starting box at Parkstone before calling it a day in his early 80’s.

I would be very grateful if you could spread word amongst the fleet – whilst many newer members might not know of him  – I’m sure there are some who, hopefully,  have memories of him at International (as they were in the pre World era) and Area meetings.  I remember once looking at Uncle Al’s album on , I think, the 1981 event at Hayling Island where there was a lovely photo of him at the club.

Should anyone wish to contact the family, please could they direct their enquiries to myself on tim.kirby@dzbank.de
