The crew of W9646 ‘Whale Shark’, soon after passing the iconic Needles, June 2017.

“The Round the Island event went very well. 10 Wayfarers registered and everyone finished in under 12 hours. Only 8 went Calshot to Calshot (Chris Tyler will have the full story).

“The last leg was a challenging one with winds getting up to 26 knots against the tide. During that time we on Whale Shark went to the assistance of a yacht that had gone aground on Ryde Sands. (The lifeboat turned up afterwards and towed them off.)

“A memorable UKWA event and George Mitchell and I made approaching £500 for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation in the process.”  – Andy Darby
