Once again the weekend racing for another Wayfarer Open Meeting, this time at Aldeburgh YC, was hit with heavy winds. With the great help of Jonathan Christie (Wayfarer Class Captain at Aldeburgh) the L’Escargot and Eastern Area Championships were run very successfully over the weekend of 30 June and 1st July. Both days were very blowy but 15 intrepid racers set out on Saturday and, in the first race, only four finished and with the remainder on their sides or upside down. The second race was abandoned and only 3 finished the third. The Saturday overnight leaders were Stephen and Tim Garret from Haversham SC in Plum Crazy with a 4th place and a 2nd from Saturday’s racing! On Sunday, there was slightly less wind but still strong and increasing as the day went on. Three races were completed and everyone was back ashore by about 1:30 after some very brisk racing. The overall results were very interesting with Richard Pakes and Vic Hardingham from Haversham SC coming out on top in 10666 Devil’s Advocate with two 1sts, a 3rd and a 5th. They collected a lovely set of Wayfarer heritage silverware.
