• Hi all,

I’m thinking about making a wooden support to aid mast raising and lowering. Something that would fit onto the transom and hold the mast high enough to prevent damage to the spreaders etc.

I’m sure I’ve seen something on here….but can’t now find it.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi all,

    Just a thought…..

I wondered if it would be worth considering have a “forum” element on the Facebook page? The forums on here are pretty clunky by modern standards and don’t seem to be getting regular interactions. I use various Facebook pages to get help and guidance on my other hobbies (scuba diving & classic cars), and find them…[Read more]

    One other quick question….

I’ve noticed some other Wayfarers seem to have a line shackled to the outer end of the boom that then runs up to the top of the mast – supporting the boom – see photo of another boat (not mine) below. My boat does not have this line. Does it need to?

Thanks Kez, that’s incredibly helpful. I think I might convert it back to the more usual boom/outhaul arrangement. There’s boom on ebay that might do the trick.   https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wayfarer-sailing-dinghy-boom-Delivery-possible/133090272682

Any other general comments about the rigging would also be really helpful. Cheers.

    Hi all,

Just got myself a GRp Mk2 – slowly get my head around how to rig her, previous owner not very helpful!

Forgive the newbie question, but I’ve not come across this type of boom end before, it doesn’t look “standard” Wayfarer. Does the main sheet block attach to one end of the metal plate as in my photo? can’t work out where the mainsail…[Read more]

Thanks Paul and Bob – that’s helpful. I’ve also order a copy of the Wayfarer book from the shop on here, so hoping that will help too.

Bob – yes I thought that it sounded a bit odd to fix the forestay to the furling drum and using a rope tail for the last few inches makes perfect sense now.  Not got as far as the jib/halyard yet…. one for the weekend!

    Hello all,

Just acquired nice old (1976) Mk2. Returning to sailing after 15 years or so….. so please forgive the stupid questions that will probably follow!

I’ve ordered the Wayfarer book, but are there any basics guides to rigging, mast footing and general setting up the Wayfarer up?

One quick specific question – the seller suggested the f…[Read more]
