• I had a highfield lever on my Mk 4 from the factory but had Ralph Roberts fit a musclebox and have no regrets over this. No more pinging levers and pinched skin! This is mounted on the centreboard case area, but either option will need the halyard sorting.

Thanks Dave, I will look at a single block and return line and see what I can do. Thanks!

  • Hi all,

We have a Mk 4 cruiser and I was thinking about putting small block on the bottom of the forestay, another with becket on the bow plate with a line feeding around them and back to the cockpit (to come out on the port foredeck return, mirroring the genoa fuller on the other side). The thinking is to allow one person (me) to raise and…[Read more]

I have a 3.5 as recommended by Ian Porter for use in tidal waters where one may start to struggle with a smaller motor – you would only need a 2.5 on canals. I think you can also get a 2.5 that is down around the 13kg mark which is remarkably light.

Weight of 3.5 is not too bad (though if you want really light weight you’d look for an old 2…[Read more]

    Hi Ketchup,

I have a Mk 4 so can’t help too much with the specifics of your boat. On the Mk 4, the mainsheet passes through a loop halfway between the rear block and the centre block on the boom, so does not sag on that run (if that is what you mean). The main then comes down to a ratchet block with cam cleat mounted to the rear of the…[Read more]

  • Hi Swiebertje,

Many thanks for the comprehensive reply. I grew up sailing on the Norfolk Broads so it all sounds familiar, though bridges that get out of your way will be a nice change from having to lower and raise your mast!

I did mean buoyancy aid, not life jacket! Thanks for the reminder though.

We’re really looking forward to the rally -…[Read more]

  • The International Rally is getting closer and I was just after some tips from those who had been on previous events as to what to expect, what prep would be advised and what kit we should take.

I am currently planning to take wetsuit / spray top / wetsuit boots etc to cover off any bad weather, waterproof over trousers and jacket for wet but w…[Read more]

Sorted! Apparently the application got filed in Spam, now registered 🙂

  • Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has registered for the International Rally at Heeg next year and received confirmation of some sort? I think I registered earlier this week but have not had any confirmation, and haven’t had a response to a query I submitted at the weekend.

    Thanks,

    James

  • Great, thanks for all the feedback!

Went on a trip to the Isle of Wight on Sunday with some chaps from HISC. I crewed with one of them and saw the benefits of various things. Interestingly, the performance advantage of a Spinnaker was not as great as I had expected. One boat flew one all the way back and only really started to pull out a lead…[Read more]

  • Hi all,

We’re due to take delivery of our new Mk 4 later this week (very exciting!) and we have been reading everything we can online. There is a lot of good cruising advice out there and I have a couple of questions:

    1. Being a mk 4 we should be self draining with transom scuppers and floor bailers. Is there any need to carry a hand bailer as…[Read more]
