Just a note to say I have now managed to recreate the reefing system shown on the Pdf. I have been down the club to try it out on the boat and it works quite well. All I need now is to put into pratice on the wobbly water and under windy conditions.

Thanks again Swiebertje for your help.

Now thats what I call a comprehensive and detailed reply I thought the PDF was great and I am sure anyone else following this thread will appreciate it to. I will be using the ideas I have seen there.

    Thanks very much,
    Geoff.

Swiebertje, yet again a simple yet helpful suggestion, cheers.

I have got a very old boom, the old round / oval shape. It has no slider groove so I will be extra careful before drilling and fixing, thanks for your help.

    Thanks,
    Geoff.

Thanks Vince for your reply, I think I will leave the cleats where they are and use the 45 degrees rule.

    Thanks,

    Hi Robert,
I have towed my MK 2 from Essex to the Carsington reservoir in Derbyshire, via a camp site. I used my 1400 Fiesta. It did ok, I would suggest you go to the technical forum and search towing. I would think you would require something more powerful and heavier than my car to take it over to Switzerland some will agree and some not. The…[Read more]

I have checked the keel band and the slot gasket and they are both ok. There is no slack in the rudder stock the leading edge of the rudder is fine also. I will check the centre board some time but, in the mean time I will put it down to my amazing sailing ability. 😆

    Cheers to all,
    Geoff.

Thanks for your replies, I like the idea I am sailing fast and efficient. I will check the rudder but I am fairly sure it comes from the CB area.

    Thanks,
    Geoff.

  • Your assumption that they would leak all along the band is flawed as it only takes 1 or 2 to let in water, just a thought. 💡

  • Swiebertje,
Thanks for your advise on this topic, I used your method of the template and it worked out fine. Prop is well clear and all seems to be well. I would like to say that membership is worth it for the forum alone. I am looking forward to see if it works as well as it looks. Thanks to Tempest51 for your help also.

    Thanks Again. 😀

    Hoggy.

  • Swiebertje,
Thanks for your advice (and very detailed it was). I will spend a good long time making sure of all possible issues as you say things can vary from model to model. I like the idea of using the template to size it all up.

Thanks again for all the replies,
    Hoggy.

  • Thanks again for your info Tempest51, I am only just starting to sail myself and I will only be using mine for day sailing. I completed the repainting of mine late into the start of the season last year so I hope to get some more in this season. I in tend to sail mine on the Thames but a lot further down than you sail, I am in the South End on Sea…[Read more]

  • Thanks for your pointers Tempest51, I will do as you suggest as I have used sikaflex before and found it to be good stuff. How did you decide where the right place was? Did you go with the instructions that came with the bracket and shoe?

  • Tempest51,
If I mess it up there will not be enough of the old scottish stuff to console me. There might be a ceremonial fire on my drive though!! That would please the spouse I suppose. 😆

    Cheers,
    Hoggy.

  • Swiebertje,
Thanks for your reply I did look through this string of relplies before but did not find what I was looking for. But his time I have found one where they stated measurements, so thanks for your help. 🙂

    Cheers,
    Hoggy.

  • Hoggy replied to the topic Dust in time in the forum Technical 9 years ago

I repainted my Wayfarer last winter – spring ( and into summer), I found it near impossible to eliminate all chances of getting dust and insects on drying paint. What I did do though, and bear in mind I was using my single garage plus a garden gazeebo, was this. I used a large fan to blow dust out of the garage whilst blowing the walls and any…[Read more]

I thought that stepping the mast would be a better Idea or do they insist you capsize? I would think easier to step than to bail out unless of course you have the newer type wayfarer.
    Just a thought!
