The Circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight is once again being organised by Jenny Jeffs and John Norman, in association with the UKWA. Jenny and John are both keen members of the UKWA and are very proud to offer the famous “Around the Island Event.” This is by far the most challenging event on the cruising calendar.
This event has as its prime objectives to promote advanced sea sailing within the UKWA and to share together a common interest in good seamanship and small boat navigation techniques.
This is a NON – STOP 65 n/mile sailing event which may take between 10 and 18 hours to complete. It is suitable for advanced sailors only who are able to deploy good seamanship skills and helm for long periods of time.
Safety is of paramount importance on this event. Boats must be well prepared before arriving at Calshot. There is little time to make repairs and there are limited chandler’s facilities at Calshot. Remember there is NO safety boat. The Safety Officer will call Solent Coastguard when all boats are afloat and monitor the event throughout. Participants are required to carry some essential items, which are listed within the Joining papers. You are strongly advised to check and test all items before leaving home. For reasons of safety, the items listed are compulsory. We request all boats are checked on arrival at Calshot. The safety check forms must be signed by the Safety Officer on arrival and kept on file with him.
