How far should the bowsprit be able to extend. It is limited by the length of line running through the pole to the tack and belayed just forward of the mast above the sole. My bowsprit stops about seven inches before the stopper at the aft end of the pole reaches the point at which it is supported forward. Should I lengthen this line to enable the pole to extend to its maximum length?
My pole extends about 45 inches forward of the stem. There is then about 8 1/2 inches of the pole aft of the stainless steel supports. I would not want the pole further forward as the leverage would increase across the stem.
