Roger, the keel/lower board/hog/C board case had around a dozen 3 inch stainless screws holding it all together and providing rigidity to the structure.
How about glue or some sort of bedding compound between the lower face of the Centreboard case and the upper hog face?

Mike Smith’s Wooden Wayfarer Restoration Manual (2004) talks about this:-
“When originally built, the Centreboard Case was bedded in on a mastic strip. The Centreboard case was secured through both the keel and the hog with 3in x 12g galvanised steel countersunk head wood screws rather than brass.”
I won’t quote the whole section, as you probably know this already.
