InactiveI have no intention of replacing my mast but after some hidden corrosion on my tiller/extension joint became apparent (they separated) my mind wandered onto the mast. Specifically where the shrouds join the mast must be a potential failure point. (I replaced the shrouds when I bought the boat.) I’d be less concerned if the gooseneck broke or the kicker fixing gave out but obviously if a shroud fixing went a lot of damage and difficulty could follow. I am wondering if this area of the mast has been a problem that anyone is aware of. How do you know when to replace a mast unless you invert it in shallows and break it. Obviously visual inspection is one thing but even then a degree of corrosion might be acceptable. Any opinions/experience welcome
Dave
PS My boat is thirty years old but the mast who knows, though it looks sound to me. - AUTHORPOSTS
