The Irish Inlands will take place in Cullaun SC on the 3rd – 4th September. For those who have not travelled to Cullaun, it is a small lake, in a very scenic part of Ireland, close to Bunratty Castle. It is a beautiful place to sail.

The club has a small fleet of Wayfarers – many of you will have met Margaret and Emmet at the nationals this year in Dun Laoghaire and in Weymouth last year. As Emmet says, Cullaun is a ‘little piece of paradise!’ It looks like there will be a good number of boats travelling from some of the other Wayfarer clubs in Ireland, with 7 confirmed and 2 more possible coming from East Down, plus possibilities from Greystones and other clubs.

I am sure we will all be guaranteed a good time, the barbeque in Donnellon’s is sure to be great!

Many thanks to all of the folk at Cullaun SC, especially Emmet and Margaret, who hosted a great event at the start of september. Thanks also to Gordon Jess (EDYC) who persuaded and cajoled a sizeable proportion of the EDYC Wayfarer fleet to travel, despite never having been to the venue before. The Cullaun Regatta included the Irish Wayfarer Inlands (we almost mustered as many boats as the UK Inlands!) The racing was competitive throughout the fleet, the venue was fantastic, a small lake in Co Clare, and conditions were superb, with light to moderate winds on the Saturday (4 races sailed) and more challenging conditions on the Sunday (2 races sailed).
Cullaun SC is unusual in that for all intents and purposes, has two clubhouses – one is located in the dinghy park right beside the lake, and the other (called Donnellons) is located in the mainstreet of Kilkishen village and serves a great pint of Guinness.

The craic in the evenings was mighty, as they say and the locals arranged a lovely barbeque and a great traditional music session for the Saturday night in Donnellons pub after racing.

7 boats travelled from East Down YC to join the local fleet – I am sure this number will increase next year!
