    Thanks for all the above. Another silly question. There is what looks like a sacrificial strip of ply on the hull base. I am taking it off (what’s left of it !!). Question is, should it be there and what should I replace it with?.

    Where – Inside or outside? As far as I am aware the only ply that should be on plastic boats is that glassed in for strengthening – has someone made a ‘temporary’ repair??

    David,

    It is on the outside and runs along the whole length of the hull. I think the previous owner has put this on to protect it from running up onto beaches etc. as it is very worn.

    I have seen some wayfarers with a metal strip on, once I have sorted out the hull (eventually !!) do you recommend this or should I leave it bare?.

    Metal rubbing strakes along keel line from stem to stern are in class rules,and obviously offer protection to the keel,
