I have recently joined this forum. As you have probably observed I have been on the website asking a couple of questions, so I thought I should introduce myself.
I recently aquired a wayfarer no 510 from 2 spanish gentleman in Garrucha, Spain. I understand from the sail number the boat was constructed in 1962 by Westerly Boats, Cornwall.
I am a member of a Sailing Club, Santa Irene Club de Vela where I am learning to sail. Apart from the wayfarer we sail lasers, catamarans, and numerous other boats, too many to mention.
If any one is on holiday in Garrucha or Mojacar you will find us on the slipway at Garrucha Harbour every Sunday. You will be very welcome to join us for a sail, weather permitting of course.

Thanks for that Jim. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am.
I will be sailing all winter in lovely sunshine with temperatures of around 19/20 degrees. I will expand no further for fear or reprisals from other members.
As stated earlier I purchased this GRP dinghy with sail numbers of 510. Am I right in thinking the sail numbers could not belong to the boat. No 510 is listed as 1962, however my dinghy is made of GRP which I understand did not come onto the scene until 1965.
If this is correct can I find out the exact date/year my boat was built?

Alann, there should be a plate situated just behind the thwart where the centre board case slopes down towards the floor. The hull number should be on this plate, you can then check it with the age list on this website.

    Thanks for that Simon.
I have found the plate which shows the number 5878 with the number 268 underneath.
I assume you use the 4 figure number 5878 which would mean the boat was registered in 1977?
