    Hi,

I aplogise for the poor quality image below, but was wondering what the latch like things were for on the boom at the gooseneck of my new Wayfarer sail no. 10089  I have no idea where they latch onto or what they’re for.

    Thanks

    Robert

Hi , I guess you are referring to the reefing hooks. The should be reefing lines on the aft end of the boom to go with these.

    hope that helps

Thanks Bob, makes sense, maybe they’ve been made redundant as all my reefing lines run inside the boom, I’m guessing modified, where the lines would have previously gone through the hooks.

Your reefing lines would pull down the back of your sail onto the boom and the front of your sail would be hooked onto the hook.

    Release kicker

pull reefing line to scandalise the sail

lower sail and hook onto reefing hook

hoist sail a little to tighten the luff of the sail and take a final pull on the reefing line.
