i am wondering about simplyfying my mainsheet arrangement by changing to all centre main sheet system.
Is anyone out there using such a system.?
Can you use just the present attachment point on the ‘World’ only and just use different block arrangement ?
grateful for response.
regards

ParticipantIt has been done, yes. But remember that by moving the purchase forward you will need extra sheaves. As the momentum stays the same, the force increases (momentum equals force times arm). So, you need to exchange your single blocks by double sheaved blocks. Also you need a stiff boom because of the higher force involved, but that should not be a problem with a W-world. AFAIK all W-worlds have a modern stiff boom.
Matoi, an active forum member from Croatia, showed us some pictures some time ago using two single sheaves on the boom, some distance apart to distribute the load a little. Look here: http://wayfarer.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3596&highlight=#3596 and here: http://wayfarer.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2958&highlight=#2958 and on his web-site: http://sites.google.com/site/sailpinchika/Home
There is an issue with racing though. The class rules demand you to have the main purchase at the transom. So, if you want to race her as well, I suggest using some sort of easy movable construction that allows you to move your main back to the boom end for racing.
