1) Try a flamethrower – that way I can ensure that you don’t keep beating me next season 😀
2) I used Nitromors – the special stuff in a yellow tin, I think. Then a very careful scrape using a scraper with detachable blades. Look in B&Q and it is with a green plastic handle – can’t remember the make. I did take the precaution of filing the blade ends round a bit so that they didn’t dig in and scratch the wood. Just need to be careful and gently scrape the stuff off with the grain and it doesn’t touch the bare wood at all.
