Hi Serge,

You can use self tapping screws for your docking line fairlead. There is a wooden batten running down the centre of the foredeck. Just make sure you seal the screws to stop any water entering and rotting the wood.

When the WIC article was written the Aeroluffspars system was in it’s infancy and is worth having a look at now. It uses a much thinner spar than either the Bartles or Helyar so you get a much better flow of air over the sail.

The retreival line from whichever system you go for is best led back to the aft of the centreboard case so the helm can furl the sail. It’s one less thin for the crew to worry about when landing on a pontoon or picking up a buoy or ancchoring.
