In anticipation of the 75th aniversary of the D-Day landings, this cruising rally will be based at Cercle Nautique de Ver sur Mer, nr Bayeux, Normandy.
The sailing club is situated just back from the beach on the Normandy coastline, and is ideally placed for exploration of the various landing beaches.
Planned trips include:
Visiting Gold Beach – sailing to Arromanches les Bains and the remains of Port Winston harbour, with a visit to the museum and a film on the D-Day crossing of the Channel and the building of the artificial Mulberry harbour at Arromanches.
Visiting Omaha Beach – sailing to the Sailing Centre Eolia at Colleville, with a visit to the American cemetery.
Visit to the Bayeux tapestry, with commentary on the Channel crossing by William the Conqueror in 1066.
A parade of Wayfarers and regatta at Ver sur Mer.
Sail to Ouistreham and the Pegasus Bridge, including a visit to the Pegasus Memorial.
Visiting Juno Beach – sailing to Courseulles Sailing Centre with a visit to the Canadian museum at Courseulles-Grayes.
