Parkstone held their ‘ round Brownsea Island ‘ race on Saturday with
9 MarkIVs taking part. Geof Gibbons, crewed by Nick, had his
now customary dominance challenged in the light prevailing winds
winds followed by an equally light sea breeze. Steve and Barbara
Walder- Davis were the victors registering their first win of the series.
It wasn’t business as usual at Waldringfield either. Roger Challis
‘ rested ‘ and Neil Fletcher and Chas Edwards took advantage with a
first and a second. Colin Johnson and Martin made their first
appearance of the season in 11060 and must have been pleased with a
second and a first. With two races to go Neil and Chas need to win
both to stand any real chance of winning the series from Roger.
Shoreham saw the return of Bill and Lisa Whitney from their near
success at Haversham and they chalked up three firsts and a second
over the weekend. In the medium handicap series , in which 22 boats
took part over 9 races, Wayfarers took the first three places despite
sailing off 1080! Philip Ayton and I came second and Chas and
Mandy Hammond third.
Upper Thames held a competition for Wayfarers during Bourne End
Week. Seven boats participated and the eight race series was
dominated by Peter and Beth Brewer in Kimsar ( 1540 ! ).They were
chased all the way by Andrew and Jenny Wilson in 8844, visitors
from Datchet Water.
Back at Datchet Anthony Cooper and Ray
Mason lost their lead in the series on count-back to a Laser Radial
Bough Beech run an AM and PM Handicap series. Dave Roberts and
Mick Bryant lead the AM series while Guy and Debbie Marks lie
second in the PM series headed only by Eliot Marks in his Laser
Radial.
Brian Lamb and Sam Pygall scored a third in the Handicap Series a
result which would no doubt have pleased them but for the fact that
in second place was ex-crew Tony Hunt crewed in his V3000 by well-
known Wayfarer crew Suzanne Hall.
