Would you like to become part of the UKWA committee?

If so, we would be delighted to hear from you!

The UKWA has thoroughly enjoyed the Wayfarer 65th anniversary year in 2023, with many fabulous sailing events and is looking forward to the future.

On the water our strong membership are warmly invited to our wonderful sailing events: cruising rallies, ‘have a go in a Wayfarer days’, the popular Family Festival and training (on and off the water), as well as the National Circuit Racing Series and Championship events.  There are also International events for both cruisers and racers.

Off the water, members receive:  our monthly e-Newsletters, the full and colourful magazine; Wayfarer News, are registered for our website with the Members Only Forum, access to the full archive of Wayfarer News, extensive cruising report library, and videos on our new Media library as well as access to the wealth of knowledge and experience within the Class and its members.    This is all down to members happy to help the Association  – if you are interested in joining the friendly team of helpers, event organisers and executive committee members please do not hesitate to get in touch.  If you have experience in using Sailing Club Manager, we would be particularly pleased to hear from you.

Election for the 2024 UKWA Officers and Management Committee members will take place during our AGM in February.

Please complete a nomination form with a proposer and seconder and return to the Secretary BY 10 January 2024 (45 days prior to the AGM).

 

Ian Proctor Memorial Trophy

Is awarded at our AGM for outstanding services to the Association and Wayfarer Sailing.

Nominations for the Ian Proctor Memorial Trophy are requested from the general membership by the Chairman.

Please send to: John Mellor: vice-chair@wayfarer.org.uk  By 1 December 2023.

 

Attention all Cruising Logs!

The Frank Dye Viking Longship Trophy:

This trophy had originally been donated by Frank Dye and re-named in his memory, 2011. It was originally donated by Frank for the best cruising log received that year.

It is now awarded for the best account of an adventurous, independent cruise, with reference to navigational and technical details of the vessels’ movements during that trip, either reported in Wayfarer News, written as a cruising log or shown as a video.  (Open to all Wayfarer cruisers, not necessarily Vikings).

Entries will be judged by this year’s winner: Tom and Hamish Morton W11378

 

The Piers Plowman Trophy:

Originally awarded for the best cruising article published in the last year in Wayfarer News by a co-habiting couple by Greta Plowman in memory of her husband, Piers Plowman.

Now awarded for the best magazine article in Wayfarer News (or video diary) of any cruise: single or multi day, whether a Rally or independent, except where the article or video is of a more technical and detailed nature, like a log.

UKWA Annual General Meeting 2022  *** Change of Date ***

Due to the uncertainty of Covid-19 in early January, the decision has been taken to hold our AGM Virtually again, via Zoom and change the date to 7:00 pm, Thursday 24 February 2022 .

Please email Sarah Burgess secretary@wayfarer.org.uk for Zoom log in details, ahead of the meeting.

This will allow members to attend our AGM and the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show at Farnborough if they wish.

Please come and join us for our 64th Annual General Meeting.
