60th Anniversary UK Wayfarer National Championships 2018
Sponsored by Craftinsure and Hartley Boats
“CALLING ALL WAYFARER SAILORS!”
The 2018 UK Wayfarer National Championships will be hosted by Castle Cove Sailing Club from 1-3 June.
Racing will take place over three days in Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour, the waters where the 2012 Olympic Sailing Regatta was held, and which also hosted the very successful Wayfarer International Championships in 2010 and the European Championships in 2014.
There will be three races each day with all boats racing as one fleet but subdivided into Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets. Allocation of fleets will depend upon the entrants’ track record but Bronze fleet is typically for novice or cruising sailors. All entrants will be required to be members of UKWA or an equivalent National Class Wayfarer Association.
The Hartley Boats website has a dedicated Nationals page linked here.
The Host Club:
The event will be hosted by Castle Cove Sailing Club, an active and friendly family club, located on the north shore of Portland Harbour with great views across the harbour from the elevated clubhouse and large terrace.
The Club will provide its experienced race team which runs several open events each year including the Weymouth Town Regatta which regularly attracts more than a hundred entries. Social events will also be hosted by the Club on the Friday and Saturday evenings. Visit www.ccsc.org.uk for more information.
Help Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Wayfarer dinghy:
The UKWA is keen to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the wonderful Wayfarer dinghy by encouraging as many entries as possible to this special event.
Welcome Back Wayfarers – In celebration of the 60th year anniversary we would love to welcome lapsed UKWA members back to active participation. To encourage former members we will have a special free UKWA membership renewal incentive for all entries who have not renewed membership in over 5 years. So come on, no more excuses, sign up now, dust off your dinghy, review your best racing tactics and come on down to Castle Cove to join in the fun!
For those who come to support but not race, from the award winning beach to fossil hunting, activities for the kids, nature reserves and a vibrant town centre there is plenty to do in Weymouth.
Whether walks along the South West Coastal Path or visits to museums or art galleries are your thing, the local area should satisfy your interests. Visit www.weareweymouth.co.uk or www.love-weymouth.co.uk for more information.
